Wissahickon Park Engagement Session | Stephanie + Max

Stephanie & Max’s Wissahickon Valley Park Engagement Session

Stephanie and Max chose Wissahickon Valley Park in Philadelphia for their engagement session, and it is easy to see why this location is such a favorite for engagement photography. With wooded trails, stone bridges, the Wissahickon Creek, and miles of natural scenery, the park offers a completely different feel from the city streets just a few miles away.

We spent the session exploring the park and taking advantage of the variety of scenery along the way. The surrounding trees and trails gave Stephanie and Max plenty of space to move around and interact naturally, while the creek and historic stonework provided beautiful backgrounds for more intentional portraits. Rather than staying in one spot, we let the session unfold as we walked and found interesting light throughout the park.

Wissahickon Valley Park is one of my favorite Philadelphia engagement session locations for couples who want their photographs to feel relaxed and connected to nature. There is enough variety within the park to create a full engagement gallery without needing to travel between multiple locations. Wooded paths can create intimate portraits, while the creek, bridges, and more open areas give us opportunities for wider photographs that showcase the landscape.

For Stephanie and Max, I kept the direction simple. I helped them with positioning and movement when needed, then gave them room to be themselves. Engagement photography does not need to feel like a long series of poses. Some of the best photographs happen while walking between locations, laughing together, or simply forgetting about the camera for a moment.

Timing is especially important when planning a Wissahickon Valley Park engagement session. Photographing later in the afternoon allows us to work with softer light as it filters through the trees. Because the park is heavily wooded in many areas, I generally recommend beginning a little earlier than I would for an engagement session in a wide open location.

A Wissahickon Valley Park engagement session is a great option for couples searching for natural engagement photos without leaving Philadelphia. The combination of forest, water, historic architecture, and trails creates a setting that feels peaceful and secluded while still being conveniently located within the city.

Stephanie and Max’s engagement session brought all of those elements together. We explored the park, worked with the changing light, and created a collection of candid and naturally directed portraits that captured this season of their lives together.
