Longwood Gardens Engagement Photography | Virginia + Thomas
Virginia & Thomas’s Longwood Gardens Engagement Session
Virginia and Thomas chose Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania for their engagement session, and few locations in the Philadelphia area offer this much variety for engagement photography. Between the formal gardens, fountains, architecture, conservatories, tree lined paths, and constantly changing seasonal scenery, there is always something beautiful to work with.
We spent Virginia and Thomas’s engagement session exploring the gardens and allowing the location to naturally shape the photographs. One of the things I love most about photographing engagement sessions at Longwood Gardens is that you never have to force variety. Walking from one area to another can completely change the look and feel of the photographs while still keeping the entire session visually connected.
My approach with Virginia and Thomas was relaxed and simple. I gave them direction when they needed it and then allowed them room to interact naturally. Longwood Gardens provides plenty of opportunities for those quieter moments because there are pathways to walk, gardens to explore, and beautiful spaces where couples can simply enjoy being together rather than feeling like they are constantly posing for photographs.
For couples considering a Longwood Gardens engagement session, the location works beautifully because it combines natural scenery with elegant architecture. One part of the session can feel romantic and garden inspired, while another can have a much more classic or architectural look. That variety makes Longwood Gardens one of my favorite engagement photography locations in Chester County.
The time of day can also make a big difference. Later afternoon and evening light can be especially beautiful throughout the gardens, and as the light changes, different areas of the property begin to photograph differently. Planning enough time to explore allows us to take advantage of those changes without rushing from one location to another.
An engagement session is also a chance to become comfortable being photographed before the wedding. Most couples are not accustomed to having a professional camera following them around, and there is no expectation that you arrive knowing how to pose. I provide enough direction to make you feel comfortable while leaving space for the expressions, interactions, and moments that happen naturally.
Virginia and Thomas’s Longwood Gardens engagement session gave us the opportunity to create a collection of photographs that incorporated everything that makes this location special while still keeping the focus on the two of them. The gardens provided the setting, but their connection and personalities are what ultimately made the photographs their own.
