Kaley & Bryn’s West Chester Engagement Session
Kaley and Bryn chose West Chester, Pennsylvania for their engagement session, giving us the perfect mix of historic architecture, charming streets, and the character that makes downtown West Chester such a great location for engagement photos. We spent the session exploring the area, using the changing scenery to create a collection of photographs that felt relaxed, natural, and true to them.
One of my favorite things about photographing a West Chester engagement session is the amount of variety available within just a few blocks. The historic buildings, brick sidewalks, storefronts, quieter side streets, and pockets of greenery make it easy to create several different looks without constantly moving from one location to another. For Kaley and Bryn, that meant we could simply walk, talk, and stop whenever we found great light or an interesting backdrop.
My approach to engagement photography is to keep things comfortable. Most couples are not used to being professionally photographed, and they should not have to arrive knowing how to pose. I gave Kaley and Bryn direction when they needed it, while leaving plenty of room for the candid interactions and small moments that happen naturally between them. That combination allows the photographs to feel polished without losing the personalities of the people in them.
West Chester is especially beautiful for engagement photography later in the day. As the light becomes softer, the architecture and streets take on a warmer feel that works beautifully for portraits. Scheduling an engagement session closer to sunset also gives us an opportunity to work with several different qualities of light as we move through downtown.
